Because Google has set up a service, Checkout, the same ilk. Unfortunately, it is available in the U.S. yet. Yet we can well imagine that within a few months or years, it will overshadow Ebay. Google is by far the most used web site on the planet, and all their services have generated a veritable fan club (including me!).
